Diaper Swap Fun

For those of you who don't know, with baby number two, we made the switch to cloth diapers. My brothers and I were all cloth diapered, so it just seemed natural for me to go with cloth. (Especially since daycare is temporarily out of the picture.) Now, cloth diapers have come a long, long way from the prefold and plastic pant days. They are soooo much cuter and more convenient than ever. Plus, fluffy butts are precious. :)

When I got the opportunity to participate in the Newly Wed Newly Bred Diaper Swap, I jumped at the chance to not only buy cute diapers for another baby, but also receive something fluffy for my little Reid monster, as well!

Thanks so much to Rebecca for my kick ass fluffy mail! We got a customer sock monkey diaper cover from Sew Hippy, a fleece blanket, a cotton diaper cover and a sweet card. Here are some pics of the goods!

Military Intelligence Goes Mainstream

The idea that the military has adopted Web 2.0 tools in their intelligence community doesn’t surprise me at all. In fact, I think it is a novel idea, as long as security can be maintained. Sensitivity, security, and speed must be in balance when it comes to this exclusive organization.

Obviously, the recent upswing in social networking through open online platforms cannot be ignored, as it is already taking over in the business world. Companies like Crocs and Bumgenius are using online sites, like Twitter to reach customers, market new products, and get immediate and uncensored feedback.

In case you haven’t heard, news on sites like Twitter and Facebook spreads like wildfire. As an avid tweeter, I can honestly say that there have even been quite a few times when I have learned of some breaking news stories on Twitter instead of my usual trusted news sources, like CNN or Fox News.

Now, with this speed of communication, also come consequences. Once something is said, it can rarely be taken back before someone else has already seen it and passed along the information. One typo, or under-thought-out comment, and it will become quite difficult to reverse the domino effect. There have also been times when false rumors have been spread as well, so the Web 2.0 world is not free of flaws.

Honestly, I think the advantages of Web 2.0 outweigh the disadvantages, and the military should embrace technology, but with an enforced code of ethics and proper protocol. Instantaneous collaboration is definitely essential to our military being able to keep up with the pace of a Web 2.0 world.

Night of the Living Dead

So, I have resurrected my blog from the dead for grad school purposes. Stay tuned for some, quite possibly, under stimulating posts!

Why Do it Today When I Don't Have to?

My Sick Little Monster

Wow, um, no big surprise here, but I suck at this whole blogging thing. The organization and the time management just isn't there for me... doesn't help that I am a procrastinator either. Look at the bright side, at least when I do post, I'm not blabbing on for paragraphs about chemistry... because I could totally do that if you want... spectroscopy... Schrodinger...

Have no fear, organization is on my to do list... right after getting to the point where I am able to take daily showers.

Sick, Sick, and Sicker

This past week started out great but quickly took a turn for the worse as I got sick, followed by R, and then r. One positive strep test, two fevers, and a lot of tylenol later, I am sitting here typing this mundane paragraph. Go ahead, click the back button for something more interesting... I dare you!

I wish I had something else to write about... oh... wait a tic! I should be working on my project that is due next Monday. Ok, since you didn't end this, I will.

Holla!

PS Tomorrow starts the Body After Baby Challenge. Watch me squash this!

The Pool from Hell

So, it seemed like a great idea to put in an above ground pool this summer, especially with Ryan being in year round swimming lessons. I did tons of research, can't help the scientist in me, and decided on a saltwater system. Boy did I screw up!

So everything is jolly good, except that the saltwater chlorinator has to be soaked at least once a week in acetic acid AKA vinegar to get friggin mineral deposits off of the titanium plates. This requires that I basically disassemble the darn thing on a regular basis.

The mineral deposits are only the tip of the iceberg, as the pool seems to feel more like a hot tub during the day than a nice refreshing pool. So, the water is evaporating faster and creating a need for me to add more calcium, etc. filled water... and the vicious cycle repeats itself. Damn you hard water!!!

Lesson learned... get an in ground pool and hire someone else to maintain it.

Ok, now that my pool rant is over...

I have nothing more to say.

Peace Out!

Happy 4th of July and Welcome to my New Experiment!!

Welcome to my life. Let me first warn you that this is and always has been a story of epic proportions. I am thinking that blogging might just be a great way for me to actually reconnect with humanity since I fell in to the pit of motherhood over 3 and a half years ago.

First, introductions... I am 26 years old, married for over 7 years, mom to two monsters with the XY curse, have my undergrad in chemistry, and am currently working on my graduate degree. I like tree hugging, recycling, cloth diapers, ghetto music, icees, cheese, and being sarcastic. I sound like a real gem, right? :)

Now that I have set the tone, I just want to say that I look forward to ranting, raving, and sharing my trials and tribulations of motherhood, and life in general with other moms, and the world.

Peace Out!

About Me

My Photo
Steve Parker
I am a tree hugging, cloth diapering, nursing, Prius driving, tortured graduate student and mom of two beautiful monsters. I have been married to Steve for over seven years, but he has a major flaw in that he seems to only be capable of producing children with the Y chromosome. My beautiful little monsters are Ryan and Reid, and they do a wonderful job of keeping me alive and slowly killing me at the same time. What can I say? I love my guys!
